Many people see tipping as a means whereby employers save money on employee salaries. Why not pay a regular living wage you may ask? But in some cultures, tipping has become a necessary component of how many working people actually make a living. Though casino jobs like the dealer or croupier are made out to be glamorous, they are, in fact, nothing more than service industry workers. As a result, they suffer from extremely low basic pay (if any at all) and have to make up the rest through tips.

In the past, going to the casino was a formal affair, with the gentlemen dressed in tuxedos and the women in formal evening wear. Thankfully we have moved on from those days. However, certain aspects of these manners still persist in the way of casino etiquette. In other words, there are still formal rules in place about the right and wrong way of both playing and behaving. Going into a casino without knowledge of these will result in you having a less-than-stellar playing experience.

Dealers have to pay their way through dealer school. They then work long shifts at the casino, and often have to put up with the general public. That's a lot of suffering and then they only receive minimum wage. They rely on tips to make a living wage. Yeah, we agree it shouldn't be like that, but there you are. So, please be as generous as you can when it comes to tipping your dealer. Not only might he help you out when you're about to make a clanger of a mistake, but it's just good karma.
