Winning at Craps

Introduction: Winning at Craps

After you’ve studied the best strategies for craps, and you know all the rules and the odds, then you’re in a good position to understand which bets are going to be better than others. For example, a pass line bet with a house edge of 1.41% is pretty good. Other’s like boxcars, with an edge of a massive 16.66% are total no-no’s. If you’re looking for a lot of action at the casino, then probably craps is going to be your game. Yes, it’s true that poker can be a cracking game, but there’s always the downer of throwing in bad hand after bad hand which starts to really suck after a while. But with craps, a quick crew of dealers can keep the dice in the air, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised as to the number of hot hands with great numbers, you can experience.

Long Hands

The “come out roll” is the first roll that the shooter makes. Now, if they make a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or a 10, then that becomes the table’s point. They then keep shooting until they hit the same number again. Or they might roll a 7 which will then end the turn. In the first scenario, everyone wins on the pass line bets and then they start betting again. In the latter situation, everyone on the pass line loses. describing it as coldly as we have done, really drains all the excitement out of the game. But keep in mind that you can still bet on the other numbers rolling before the 7, and every time that they hit, you’ll get a payout.

Just think about it. You can get a payout every minute and yet you never have to make any additional bets for a hand that might last 10 minutes. Now just think about those hands that 20 minutes or last half an hour!

Be Patient

The problem most craps gamblers suffer from is a lack of patience. You should really work your way up to the larger bets, slowly and surely. But for many gamblers that takes too long. As a result, they simply throw out their bankroll, and then along comes a 7. They are instantly crushed. Poker players are certainly used to having to wait for a good hand. And it’s the same with craps. remember that only big hands win, so you have to be able to wait for them. Bide your time by first making small bets on the pass line, with single odds. And then wait.

Keep Your Risk Low

The idea is to keep your playing action low risk. You want to hang on to those chips until a big hand comes along. We suggest that once you’re made a pass line bet and won with single odds, only then start moving up. Make the same pass line bet, but this time double the odds once the number has been established. It’s probably best to place the 6 and the 8. Now if the point turns out to be a 6, then just place the 8 for the same size as your pass line bet. If it’s the reverse, with the point being 8, then place the 6. Once again, you’ll need to be patient. And as a rule, don’t place down more chips until you’re been paid out something.

Winning at Craps: When To Push

The reason for placing the 6 and 8 bets, is simply because the house odds are very small. The general rule is not to start placing on other numbers until you have started to win. So if there’s a pass line winner now, only raise your bets ever-so slightly. Then wait for the outcome of the roll. Now, when a new number is established, place double odds on your pass bet. Then place the other two inside numbers (5, 6, 8, 9) for about the same size as your original pass line bet. This way you’ll have action of either 4 or 5 numbers. Of course, what you’re really hoping for is a long hand with no 7 rollouts. This is the point where you’ll start to push your winning bets.

Watch Your Bank Roll

It’s a pretty basic rule to protect your bankroll, that you’ll only be betting with your winnings. If you can keep to this, then your risk is very small indeed. On the whole, every time you have a winning pass line bet, then you should raise it by 30% and take double odds. Each time a place bet hits, then you should take another number until you have them all covered. Now you own the board. After this, each time you take a place bet hit, you should press it around 30 – 40%. For example, you have an $18 place 6 and it hits. Take the place bet to $24. Now if it hits again, take it higher up to $36.

Winning at Craps: No Proposition Bets

If you really want to spice up a game of craps, then think about introducing horn and proposition bets. But keep in mind they can burn through your bankroll very, very quickly. That’s because the odds are very high, and therefore should be avoided. To that end, if you can avoid it, don’t make that prop bet. On the other side of things, if you happen to have a winning hand, then you can add some flavor to the mix by betting only small amounts with horn and prop bets. But remember that your goal is to win by taking the safest, long term approach.

Be Aggressive When Winning

Craps is really all about taking good advantage of good rolls. It doesn’t matter how you hold the dice, how you toss them or being perfect in that execution. Nope, it’s just about being able to parlay correctly. You are using a portion of your winnings in order to maximize your bets when you hit a streak. Also, you gotta know when it’s time to quit the table. On the other hand, you have to go in there to get the benefits. That means sometimes going all-in on a winning streak. OK, so you could win or lose, but it’s the only way to experience that big all elusive win.

Winning at Craps: Power Press

You’ll be amazed at how fast you can place your bets and the pass line bet with a hand of 20 or 30 minutes. Just keep on pressing forwards and remember to keep back at least 50% of your winnings. Not only will this put you well ahead in the game, but the rolling of a 7 will not prove fatal. Now if you “power press”, which means essentially doubling your bets, you could have over 10 numbers roll. But then you could also find that your bankroll didn’t increase in size either.

When To Quit

Holding back a portion of your winnings each time you hit, is a sure-fire way of maximizing your winnings at the end of a session. At the same time, it helps keep any risk down to a minimum. So, the next question is, when should you stop? We suggest it’s the moment you start to feel nervous. Look, imagine you started with a $10 pass line bet and a $12 six and eight place bet. These can be pressed into $200 of action with just 8 or 10 decent rolls. If you find yourself getting nervous, why not pull your place bets down and re-start, instead of quitting completely. Sometimes it’s better to just kick back and enjoy the game instead of being continuously worried about the chips you’ve placed on the layout. The same is true for the online jackpot sites.

Sure, you won’t have a huge score to brag about this way. But, conversely, you’ll be able to lock up some chips and have a good time. And really, when it comes down to it all, isn’t that what gambling is supposed to be all about?
