Atlantic City – All The Things To See And Do
Weather-wise, because it’s in the North, it starts getting cold in Autumn and stays that way right through until the late Spring. Also during the warmer seasons, you can enjoy the beach and the stunning outdoor views. The Summer season dovetails nicely with the school Summer holidays and it’s a great place to visit for a family vacation. But if you’re coming to gamble and you want to avoid the Summer crowds, then between March and May should be the perfect period for you. On the other side of the holiday spectrum, if you’re after some hotel and airfare discounts, then wait until after the Labor Day Holiday, and come visit in September. The weather is still warm and once again, you’ll miss all the crowds.
The 9 Casinos to Explore in Atlantic City
A few years back there were many more casinos than you’ll find today. But having said that, there are still more casinos in Atlantic City than in many other jurisdictions.
These are the casinos you can still visit:

Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa – 1 Borgata Way, Atlantic City, NJ 08401 (609) 317-1000

One point worth mentioning is that if you’re caught counting cards at blackjack, the casinos cannot legally ask you to leave. So, in order to nullify your efforts, they make use of eight shuffling machines, thus ensuring that you have no way of getting the better of the casino. But they do offer better rules than in Las Vegas because they still need to attract gamblers. Also, most of the roulette wheels are of the European single-zero variety, which also will help your odds at the table.
Atlantic City’s largest poker room can be found in the Borgata, though the Golden Nugget offers a poker room with 10 tables should you care to play there. If you’re from out of town, remember that everyone gets a tip, from the baggage check to the bartenders and dealers. On the whole, tips should be between £1 – $3 and/or no more than 10 – 20%.

How to Reach Atlantic City by Land and Air
The largest international airport would be found in Philadelphia, which is around 60 miles East of Atlantic City. If you fancy flying direct, then you’ll need to go with either Spirit America or charter your own plane. As you probably already know, Spirit flies to all major Eastern US cities. The majority of Spirit Airlines’ flights require a connection but they offer direct flights to and from New Orleans, Atlanta, Boston, Orlando, Nashville, Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, and Tampa. Have a look at any online booking service to find your best flight route to the city.
Busy Boardwalk in Atlantic City
Coming by road, then Interstate 95 enters Philadelphia from the North-South corridor and Interstate 76 enters the city from the West. On the whole, it’s best to take the state highway 42, which is called the Atlantic City Expressway, from Philadelphia to Atlantic City. The I-76 will take you directly onto the Expressway. If you decide to stay in Philadelphia you can take a train to Atlantic City for around $10. There are lots of free shuttle working to pick up train passengers and then dropping them off at the various casinos. If you by car, then parking is pretty steep in the city. It’s probably best to stay in Philly and make your way via train.
You can also grab the bus. Remember to take the bus ticket to the customer service of the first casino you visit, as they will often have a special deal for either a complete refund of the ticket price or allow you extra free spins on the slots.
Average Temperatures and Weather in Atlantic City
If you’re a Spring visitor, then expect to encounter temperatures of between 50’s and 60’s. It may be a little too cool for swimming, but you’ll still find some very pleasant warmer days. The driest month is June, which is during the tourist season. Moving on to September and October, it’s also pretty dry. In the other months, you should expect 3 – 4 inches of rain.
Peak Tourist Season Occurs in July and August
These are going to be the most expensive months to stay in town. Though even June and September are going to be pretty high, you have to get even more offseason to start to see any real price drops.
There Are Shows in Atlantic City
Though Atlantic City isn’t as large as some other US casino venues, they do manage to offer up a pretty decent selection of shows. Most of the shows are seasonal and can include stars like Julio Iglesias, Kool & the Gang, Rick Springfield and Richard Marx, and various local artists.
Plan Ahead
There are countless ways to save cash and make for an even better experience at the same time. For example, if you’re planning on hitting the clubs, then why not register for the guest list online in advance. This way, there’s no waiting at the door and you’ll save money on cover charges. Maybe you were not aware, but there’s some excellent surfing to be had on the beaches. Rent your gear in advance. The same goes for using a limo service to get around rather than taking taxis. All casinos have both smoking and non-smoking areas, so don’t be afraid of asking for your preference. Though Atlantic City isn’t famous for it’s shopping experiences, it does boast a sweet mall where you and yours will find plenty of great and varied shopping opportunities.
Thing To Do In Atlantic City
There’s a fair share of family-oriented entertainment to be found. These include the Art Museum, the Aquarium, Playground Pier and, of course, the famous Boardwalk. Then there are the beaches, the Absecon Lighthouse and plenty of local shows. Every December the Atlantic City Ballet performs The Nutcracker. There’s certainly lots to do in the city.
One thing to be aware of is the seagulls. They’re big and very aggressive and will seize any food you’re holding. So keep an eye out for their dive-bombing and watch out for bird poo on your clothes. As with almost every American city, you should expect to see any number of beggars and panhandlers. Some can be quite rude and aggressive, so we suggest that you avoid all contact. But on the whole, you’ll find Atlantic City to be clean, hospitable and certainly very visitor friendly. You have to remember that the city was really built just to attract tourists. And they’ve had almost 200 years to get it right.
